When I think of Mayaro beach, I think of family. As a girl from the South, my family took many trips to Mayaro beach when I was growing up. We would rent a beach house for a couple of days with my cousins, aunts, uncles and grand parents ever so often and pretty much spend most of the days in the sand or in the water. I still remember walking along the shore, digging for "chip chip" with my cousins for my grandmother to make accra for us. As I look back, I can see all the cousins playing football in the sand and the adults playing cards on the deck and my grandmother always cooking something delicious for us. At night, we would all sit on the deck enjoying the cold breeze, chatting, watching the stars and listening to the waves come and go. 

Mayaro beach is located in Southeast Trinidad and is a very popular holiday destination for locals and tourists.

Recommended things to do in Mayaro beach:

• Spend the day in the water (Swim with caution)
• Walk along the shore
• Go for a run/jog in the early morning, the view is spectacular
• Fishing
• Picnic on the beach
• Rent a beach house for a couple of days
• Play football/ cricket on the beach
• Dig for "chip chip"
• Lay in a hammock
