Down de Islands
"I wonder if the ocean smells different on the other side of the world."
-J.A. Redmerski
"Down de Islands" or DDI is the phrase that Trinidadians use to describe the islands off of Trinidad known as Bocas Islands and Five Islands. Last year, I had the opportunity to go DDI with my family. We chartered a yacht docked at Crews Inn's marina and cruised the emerald waters along North West Coast and the Gulf of Paria. It was a lovely sunny day and I remember sitting at the front of the boat with my feet dangling off its edge and chatting with my cousin. The views of the different islands, the sea breeze, the endless waters and the sunlight all combined to create the most relaxing atmosphere. After cruising around, the captain stopped at a secluded private bay where we spent the day in the water before heading back to mainland.
In order to experience DDI, you can charter a yacht from the marina at Crews Inn located in Chaguramas, Trinidad.
